300,000

AutoCAD WS for Android was released to an adoring public back on April 20th. Since then, it has had 2 minor updates and currently stands at Version 1.0.2 In the 9 days since its release, AutoCAD WS for Android has been downloaded over 300,000 times from the Android Market.

Woo hoo!!

This is not Autodesk’s first foray into the world of Android. The free Sketchbook Express has an install base of between 500,000 - 1,000,000 and it’s big brother Sketchbook Mobile ($0.99) has an install base of between 10,000 - 50,000.

This begs the question, where next for Autodesk on Android. The continuing development of AutoCAD WS and the Sketchbook products is obviously important, but what new products can we expect? Well earlier this year, Autodesk released Tinkerbox on the iOS platform. Perhaps it might make an appearance on Android sometime soon.

Teens Talk about Autodesk TinkerBox

Although Tinkerbox is aimed at teens, I know of engineers who manage to happily pass some time with the app!

As mentioned in a previous posting, Autodesk already have Inventor Publisher Mobile Viewer and Fluid FX on the iOS platform. Will they debut on Android anytime soon?

Time will tell I suppose, but for today, congratulations to the AutoCAD WS team on reaching the 300,000 download mark.
