Draftsight out of Beta.

A bit of CAD news today for a change.

Firstly, Draftsight is finally out of beta and available for download from for free. I’ve been using it for a while as an alternative to IntelliCAD and, even in beta, it was an excellent product.

If you are looking for a low cost, AutoCAD compatible, 2D CAD package, check it out.

The OS X version of Draftsight, available from the link above also, is still in beta, but is certainly worth checking out. Unfortunately, there is still no sign of the Linux version.

The second bit of news today is that AutoCAD WS 1.2 is now available in the App Store for the iPhone and iPad as a free download. Some of the new features are:

  • Multi-Language Support
  • Inventor DWG File Support
  • Drawing Layouts
  • Snap Previews
  • Brush Tool
  • Copy Tool
  • Support for Imperial Units (feet and inches)

More news on the release can be found here.

Bad news for Android users though, there is still no sign of a version for Googles OS unfortunately. We live in hope!
